Jillianne E. Castillo for Smart Parenting discusses the reasons why going on vacation is more fulfilling for your child than buying them a toy. Psychologist and author Oliver James says this is because the child will value this memory through their childhood which acts an anchor for their happiness that a physical gift can’t provide. Castillo goes on to explain how travel is beneficial for a child’s brain development, and how children need stress relief as much as adults do, and travel as a family can provide that.
