To better explain what it actually looked like for met to scale my business, this is what the landscape looked like:
We began the Fitness Leader Institute about 5 years ago. I’d always been interested in online marketing, but I’d invested a ton of time learning different things and never felt like it added up.
Previously, the best year we’d had was when we were selling scarf rings on E-Bay. We did a total 30k in a year, and it was a part-time side hustle. It felt like there wasn’t necessarily a “secret sauce” to success. We were just grasping at straws and hoping to get lucky. We had no idea how we would scale it, and a ton of people started copying what we were doing… so it didn’t feel secure, either.
That was our first phase of trying to build an online business.
Contrary to popular belief, I was never a Beachbody coach. I DID work for a network marketing company a while back - Cutco - and while I LOVED the product, I found the methods they were teaching us to use to sell didn’t feel authentic.
The rest of my sales experience came from working in fitness clubs, and working my way up from a part-timer wiping down gym equipment to becoming the president of a fitness company on Vancouver Island.
During all this time, I was very interested in the online world and it wasn’t until 5 years ago when I had a dream in a the middle of the night that I realized I needed to start The Fitness Leader Institute. I knew if I could be a resource to bring leaders together to teach people what they needed to do grow their businesses and sell authentically, that would be a GREAT use of my talents! It truly felt like my lane, and my passion.
When I started the FLI, I was able to put lots of effort into it while still working another job. I didn’t have children at the time, and my husband and I were temporarily living a 3 hour plane flight away due to work, so I had time I wouldn’t normally have had before and after work to really focus in on my business.
From there, it took me about 3 years before I really knew what I had to do to scale the business. The first step of building a business is just about trying to figure out if this is actually viable and profitable! So once I knew that, THAT’S where these 3 things should’ve come in sooner… because once I did them, I went from making 10k/month inconsistently to having our first 7-figure year.
After 18 years of investing in online courses and marketing, hitting 7 figures within 1 year was super quick for me. But once I plugged into the right product and messaging, everything came into alignment.
I think you just have to be plugged into the right things and you’ll know something works!
Here are the 3 Things I Wish I’d Done Sooner in my online business…
#1
Hired a coach.
After the reading, I felt so validated that we are doing the right things in our business and are focused in the right areas. Personally, I also realized that I’ve got a lot on my plate that I need to deal with right now as we look forward as a family.
These psychic business readings are a great way to have an outside perspective as to what you should consider and look for in your future.

Realized a “Funnel” was the way to build a business.
In the past, I wasn’t sure what I needed to do to build a 7 figure business. Eventually, I realized EVERY solid online business IS already set up as a funnel! There are various products that exist throughout the customer value journey, starting at something small and safe to a higher dollar product. The reason for this is because people don’t just pull out their credit card and buy a ton from you. They go through a specific process in order to move from your smallest offering to your largest offering.
Building this process into our business what was scaled us. (Including running ads! The truth is, everyone runs out of leads at some point and you DO need a system in place to get cold leads, warm them up and move them to a tiny product, then to a bigger, and bigger offer and ascend them up your ladder.) NOT doing this is why 99% of network marketers don’t ever get rich!
#3
Figuring out that our mindset is 99% of the game.
I’m talking about the abundance mindset. SO many things can get in our way, but the worst are our own thoughts. Are you thinking that the universe is constantly serving you? Or are you thinking, “This is really hard.” “This is challenging.” That’s the tone you’re bringing to your business.
I still battle with what it feels like to be in complete abundance even before it’s happened, which is the key! I remember answering my coach’s questions, which asked, “How would you feel if you had a 5 million dollar business?” I could already feel what that was like, and that’s what helped me propel to that point so quickly. I wasn’t imagining it anymore- I felt it, so I didn’t have to fight in my own mind to get there. I was already operating at that level.
“Act like you’re already there.”
It sounds simple, but it really does make a difference when you ARE the person you’re “aspiring” to be. For example, let’s say you achieved a major milestone in your health or fitness- you definitely act a different way than when you did when you were still “trying.”
When you’re already in a mindset of abundance, you operate in a completely different way.
Important Book Recommendation: Dollars Flows to Me Easily. The author, Richard Dotts, talks about the fact that the problem is we think there’s a problem… and it ends up pulling away from our biz instead of adding to it!
Now, THOSE are the 3 things I’m focused on in my business to make sure I’m scaling as quickly as possible… and I only wish I’d started them sooner!
